A rain jacket usually leaks not because of the membrane but because the outer fabric soaks up water: it gets heavier, colder and breathes worse. Textile impregnation sprays restore the water repellency of exactly that outer fabric. Choose according to whether you are treating the whole item or only a part of it.

How to choose, comparison and frequently asked questions

Spray on or wash in?

Mountval Textile Shield 300 ml is sprayed on the spot, so it suits the shoulders, a hood, a backpack or gloves. Mountval Waterproofing Refresher 300 ml is poured into the rinse compartment and treats the whole item evenly, so it suits jackets and tents better.

Do you have to wash before treating?

Yes. Dirty fabric does not take the treatment evenly. For technical clothing there is Mountval Wash & Care 315 ml, which can be used in the same cycle as the wash-in impregnation.

What about the universal aerosols?

Mountval Waterproof 200 ml and Mountval Waterproof 400 ml suit textile and footwear alike, so you will find them in both impregnation groups. They are handy when you do not want two separate products.

Frequently asked questions

Does the spray restore the properties of the membrane?

No. It works on the outer fabric and its water repellency. A damaged membrane or leaking seams are not fixed by care products.

Can you wash and impregnate in one cycle?

Yes, with Waterproofing Refresher: the detergent goes into the main compartment and the impregnation into the rinse one.

Is fabric softener harmful?

Yes. Softener coats the fibres of technical fabric, reduces breathability and water repellency, so it is not used together with these products.
