Where should you start?
Always with a clean surface. On dirt an impregnation spray soaks in unevenly and lasts a shorter time, so the first step is cleaning or washing and the second one is impregnation. The third step, when the problem is odour rather than dirt, is freshening.
How do you choose by material?
Leather, suede and nubuck need footwear products, membrane and technical textiles need different ones. The only universal products are Mountval Waterproof 200 ml and Mountval Waterproof 400 ml, which suit footwear and clothing alike.

Do Mountval products suit items with membranes?
Yes, most of them are made for items with membranes. The exact compatibility is stated in each product description, and the manufacturer names GORE-TEX directly only for Waterproofing Refresher.
Does an impregnation spray make an item waterproof?
No. It restores the surface water repellency, while resistance to water itself comes from the membrane, the seams and the construction of the item.
